Is there a way to get notifications of motion in a text message rather than email??

Yes, by using your cell provider's email to text email address as the email recipient. There's also the built-in push notifications which are instantaneous and would have the Smart notifcation snapshot.

Not all mobile providers support email to text function so the below may help too

 

There WAS an easy solution that HAD been working since Arlo enabled integration (i had been using for 18 months plus) with the IFTTT service which is free.  You could create an applet on IFTTT that when Arlo detected motion IFTTT would send SMS/Text to your mobile number, basically it was instant or within 30 secs max.  HOWEVER the service has been broken since the 28th September with no updates since.

 

There is a 'workaround' you can create an IFTTT applet to send a text/sms to your mobile on receipt of an email from alerts@arlo.com HOWEVER it sends these triggers based on a polling cycle which i believe is about 15 minutes, so any alert could arrive up to 15 minutes after the actual motion was detected.
