Do I need a router?

I am trying to install the Arlo Wireless HD Security Cameras on my home desktop. I use Verizon Home Wireless service to connect to the internet on my desktop at home. I connected the Arlo base station directly to my desktop via the AC adapter. After, I turned on the base station the Power LED lit green but not the Internet LED. Will the base station connect to the internet without being connected to a router? Is there a way for the base station to connect to my wireless home internet like my desktop?

the base station needs a port to plug into on your router or internet modem.

If you only have wireless, a wifi extender that has a network port should work for you.
