We are new users.  We are setting this up to catch a group of teen agers who are ringing our doorbell.  The issue is that when we test and recreate what they are doing, the camera is only catching us running away from the door.  We'd like to catch them running TOWARDS the door so we can see faces.  Is there a setting or rule that will allow the camera to kick in quicker (ie when our vandals are getting out of their cars and running towards the door.)  Is the issue that the camera is too far from the curb?  Any advice??

There's ba lag when motion is detected before recording can be started. There's a variety of ways to get what you want, including using two cameras and appropriate rules (you'd need to create a new mode in the Mode tab) where motion on one camera records on another. That way, your cameras can be located more optimally for both detection and recording. Also, catching their faces as they run away is as valid as on their way in. Repositioning the camera so the motion of them entering the scene triggers the recording but actually gets them leaving may be the best way. Also, be usre you're not viewing too much with the camera will help the motion be detected faster so recording gets them sooner.

Post a screenshot from the camera for suggestions.

how about stealthily mounting a camera on your mailbox to catch their license plates 🙂

But yes, I agree a two camera system or catching them on the way out is a good idea. Sometimes it's tough to do this depending on the layout of your yard.

Add a few more details and we can figure this out

Folks have done this sort of thing, hollowing out a post and putting the camera in there - try searching here.  Not many threads on it but interesting how they did it.  There was also a recent thread on installing it in a birdhouse...
