I have the Arlo home system.  I installed in on my back porch to watch both my steps up to my back porch and my garage.  I was hoping it had continuous video recording because if someone goes by the garage the motion sensor probably won't pick it up.  What can I do?

The wireless cameras won't do 24/7 recording because you'd be changing batteries every day or so.  You need a powered camera such as the Arlo Q that can do this since they're plugged into the wall.

Note that the Q is an indoor camera and isn't sealed for weather exposure.  A covered porch may or may not be adequate protection for them.  Some folks here are planning outdoor experiments but I haven't heard that any are actually in use yet.

Any solutions to my problem  I need the outdoor camera, but I really need to keep an eye on the garage and my wi-fi doesn't reach that far.  Any recommendations?

Run a eithernet cable out to the garage ( buried in pvc , old hose, etc to protect ) add a second base out in the garage... You have just added another 300 max range for cameras out there. It can be up to 300ft long.

As a PS... I'm running a Q cam outside in a protected area ( covered porch ) as a test... so far a few days of rain/wind/cold and all is fine... camera doesn't get wet but moisture may be a long time problem.

What is the current range for the camera I have?

I think you need to reposition the camera once you can get the distance fixed. Way too much sky, too far to the garage for detection, scene blocked by the railing, motion up the steps directly at the camera.

As for extending WiFi, it may be possible for you to use a WiFi extender so you can move the base to a more centrally located position relative to the cameras. It needs to have an Ethernet port so the base can plug in. You could also use that long cable, too. This won't work in all situations so a second base may be needed.

the MAX range under good conditions is 300 ft just like any wifi....

Most are less due to building contstruction type, interference, etc ... prob real at about 150ft max but each house is differnt ( have seen as low as 30 ft )
