Hi there,

I have the original Arlo camera setup with base station. The camera is above my garage door looking at the driveway. It goes off regulary when the postman comes along or the car drives out and so on. On Saturday night someone has come into the cameras view and stolen Xmas decorations. Now the camera has not sensed this and gone off which I am not happy about. My understanding was the camera would sense and turn on from any movement in its view or what it's sees in the camera. I have put a photo below of where it was stolen from and where the thief would have walked. The circle is where the decorations where stolen from and the arrow where they would have entered from. This should have gone off right? I have the sensitivity on 85% so I don't understand this. I've noticed if you walk over the far left of the camera view near the garden then it doesn't pick you up either there. All this money spent on the camera and it didn't do it's job 😞arlo.JPG

The biggest problem is that motion is pretty much directly at the camera which PIRs don't detect well. The distance has some effect here, too, so positioning properly is key. Read the FAQs here about camera positioning for details. Position the camera so motion is across the FOV for best detection.
