Arlo camera does not sync, how to tell if it is defective, blue led flashes slowly, then amber

Camera stopped on its own, added fresh batteries , base station led flashes .. does not sync

Simply replacing batteries shouldn't require resyncing - it reconnects on its own. What does the camera LED show when closing the battery door? It should briefly blink blue to indicate power is connected. If not, remove the batteries, verify the polarity and only lightly place the batteries in the slots. Let the battery door do the pushing.
