Since I installed the Arlo base station and connected it to my router (Netgear WNDR3700), the router stops working and/or locks out wireless clients. I typically have to reset it once a day.

This is quite frustrating. I have now made a workaround by directly connecting the Arlo base station to my CPE Switch (my property is connected via fiber to the internet and the CPE Switch is first in line), removing load from the router.

Everything seems to work fine but now I'm concerned because the Arlo base station is directly connected to the internet and not behind a firewall. Could this be a safety glitch in my setup?

Does anybody know if the base station has a built-in firewall?

No idea if there's a firewall built-in. It could be security by obscurity but not worth it. By the same token, I have no idea why you lose connectivity in any way by connecting to the router. It may be worthwhile to try a factory reset on the base and/or the router.
