Hi,

I have an older system purchased in 2017. The base model is VMB3010r2 with 2 wireless cameras.

The system has been working fine for what I need. I don't have any subscriptions and want to stay that way.

The issue is that the cameras sometimes don't record, especially the times I want them to record ( dogs pooping outside the front door or someone smoking etc). Also, the video quality is lacking by today's standards.

If I buy one of the new cameras, would I be able to add them to the base station? Would I be able to record without having to subscribe to a plan? I think the new cameras don't need a base station but you can't record unless you have a subscription or base station.

Any help or hints is much appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds like camera repositioning and/or increasing motion sensitivity in your modes and rules may be needed. However, remember that these cameras are designed to pick up people out to ~20 feet so a dog may not be detected since it's likely smaller than a person and person close to that range may not be detected, especially if moving slowly or not at all.

The new cameras can't connect to your base - only the VMB4xxx series or the VMB5000. However, most new cameras can also connect directly to your WiFi so that may not be as much of an issue. Be aware that all new cameras require a subscription for cloud recordings.
