In my android app I keep adding a rule and saving it but it dissappears. I went on my computer and added the same rule, and it also disappeared. What else can I do?

Rules can only exist within modes. I.e. you can't create a rule on its own and pick it up for use inside a mode. Also, you can't create a rule inside a mode and reuse it in another mode. In the old user interface (which was updated not too long ago) it was possible to create rules like you describe and reuse them in multiple arbitrary modes. This is no longer possible in the new user interface, though.

The new user interface requires you to start with creating a mode and defining all rules inside that mode. A rule you have named and defined in one mode that way cannot be reused in another mode. Instead, you have to create it from scratch in the other mode, even if you give it the same name.

I have recently added an idea in the Arlo Idea Exchange to request to bring this old feature back. I encourage you to increment its Kudos counter to get Netgear to reimplement reuse of rules.
