Hi all!

First post here. I just purchased a set of 4 Arlo Wifi cameras and the base station. Works nice when setup for single recording but I want all cameras to record when motion is sensed on one.

Rules are set as follows:

A senses motion -> record on A

A senses motion -> record on B

A senses motion -> record on C

A senses motion -> record on D

B senses motion -> record on A

B senses motion -> record on B

B senses motion -> record on C

B senses motion -> record on D

C senses motion -> record on A

C senses motion -> record on B

C senses motion -> record on C

C senses motion -> record on D

D senses motion -> record on A

D senses motion -> record on B

D senses motion -> record on C

D senses motion -> record on D

Problem is that when I walk past say cam A recording only starts on cam B and C. Nothing is recorded on A and D.

Does anyone have a clue what is causing this?

How do you know some cameras don't record?

I have noticed that if I program a “sense-on-one-record-to-many“ set of rules, not all videos appear in the library when viewing with the Android app. When viewing with browser, all videos are there.

Other things you should try:

Reboot your base station. I needed to do that since the recent app update on 2/11.

Make sure you have email notifications defined for all rules. That way you'll (hopefully) get an email with a link to the video even if it doesn't show in the library.

Track the video count on the camera page to verify whether videos are really not recorded.

Thanks for your reply!

I at least think that not all cameras are recording since no clips show up from some cameras, neither in the Iphone app, nor in the web browser. Maybe the clips are there but aren't shown?

Push notifications are activated for all rules but not email - I'll try that and see if any link appears. The push notifications are although made from each rule as expected.

The video count on each camera confirms what I suspect - different figures on all cams (6, 9, 5 and 7 clips).

I'll reboot the base station and check if this helps. I had another idea about how the rules are set up - does the order have any effect on the recording or are all the rules carried out in parallel (more or less) as soon as the trigger is set?

One more idea/question: are rules cancelled when another rule is triggered on the same camera or are they stacked or ignored?

In my set of rules, if I first walk past cam A and then B, 8 rules are triggered for recording. This should give 8 recordings or at least 4 but I only get one or two. Can the base station be overloaded and skip recording requests? Maybe the problem lies here.

Oh, right, forgot about the concurrency limitation, though in your case of no more than four cameras it doesn't make a difference. So, Arlo allows for a maximum of four concurrent streams only (or did they increase that to five recently? Can't remember).

But besides that: Motion events are not stacked. If a camera is recording due to an earlier motion event and there is another motion event during the recording, it will be completely ignored. Only if there is motion after the recording has finished can another motion event trigger another recording.

Just had a chat with the support team - it seems that there is a problem with the media servers. Work is in progress to correct the problem but no finish time can be estimated.

Update: Just tested again and all four cameras recorded and stored clips in the library. I also received push notifications and emails within one minute. Hope it is stable now.

The only other thing I can note... from my similar testing... Is it ( for unknown reason ) gets a slightly better response if the primary cams record on themselves first.

exp;

A sense record A

B sense record B

A > B

B > A

so I restacked my mode rules in that order.

Thanks for the suggestion TomMac! I was wondering if it also could be so. Time to restack all rules. I guess it means rewriting them in the preferred order.
