Can you check the voltage at the chime location?
It you have a traditional chime, you could also try touching the wires together and see if the chime rings.

Did you leave the doorbell in place for a while when you put it back? There is a small internal battery that needs to charge.
After that it is possible that you will need to reset the doorbell
