After I installed and paired this, I tried "updating".  It was trying to updating for about 20 minutes, so I gave up.  I don't know how important this is so I would like to try again but don't know where to find this. 

 

Second question, I assume I don't have to have smart service which requires a paid subscription after the trial period.

You will need a paid subscription for cloud recordings, activity zones, and smart notifications.
