No door chime

We are installing the Arlo in a new construction area. We have no door chime so I’m running bell wire from a transformer for it. The power kit seems necessary only if we have an existing chime system we wish to retain. I don’t much mind having that dongle hang off the transformer, I just don’t see the utility. Anyone have experience with whether the Arlo works correctly if it gets correct power from a transformer and there’s nothing else on that circuit?
