Sometimes the doorbell unit plays audio all by itself. It seems to happen when the button is pressed twice quickly. It plays the audio that is received by the microphone after a delay of a few seconds. Sometimes it is loud and screeching. There is no way to stop the sound and it continues for up to about 10 minutes. this is not related to answering the call on my phone. I don't do this. It does this completely independently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried reducing the speaker volume in the audio settings?

Yes but it doesn’t resolve the problem. The root issue is that the doorbell begins feeding back the audio that it is hearing for apparently no reason. It can’t be stopped but it does eventually stop on its own. Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. ring doorbell

2. ring doorbell again after a moment but before the doorbell unit has responded with a chime.

3. Wait a few seconds

The doorbell speaker turns on and plays back the audio that it is hearing  after a delay of a few seconds. Note: I did not answer the doorbell on my phone. In most cases it is still ringing on my phone. The speaker will eventually turn itself off but it is unpredictable. Sometimes after 2 or 3 minutes, sometimes 15 minutes. Basically we go inside and listen to the doorbell play back the sound of cars driving by. I have discovered that I can restart the device to make it stop immediately.

It should help if you reduce the speaker volume enough.  (If the speaker volume was set to 0, there would be no echo to return via the mic).  If it makes no difference at all, then perhaps the doorbell is ignoring that setting when the failure happens.

Interesting.  So it never happens if you only ring the doorbell once?  And it does not happen if you ring the doorbell again after the chime has sounded?

What model doorbell do you have?  Also, it might be good to tell us the firmware it is running.

Correct, doesn’t happen if you only ring once. You have to ring again before the chime has sounded. I actually don’t know if it happens if you ring it again after the chime.

Doorbell is AVD1001ar1.2: Essential Wired Video Doorbell.

Firmware is  1.21.1.0_16_77b19a1_fd97d68

The postman rang the bell twice this morning. I went out and tested it. I whistled into it, the whistle came back out of the speaker after 15 seconds.
