Our Arlo Essential Wired Video Doorbell will ring intermittently once the battery reaches the halfway point. Should I just buy a new battery (because it’s defective) or could it be something else? Once I charge it back to full power, it stops. This began happening after about 4 months of owning it, so it’s not an old battery. Not sure what to do. It rings in the middle of the night and scares the crap out us!

You indicate the wired doorbell which has no replaceable battery. Do you mean you have the AVD2001 wireless doorbell with a battery that needs to be removed to charge?

Is the doorbell connected to your existing wiring? Normally that would keep the battery charged.

It may be a faulty doorbell in which case you should use the app to go to Settings, Support and choose your doorbell. Scroll down to Contacts to see what official support may offer, including a possible RMA.

Definitely not the wired doorbell as there is no battery you can replace.  You must mean the AVD2001 Wire Free doorbell, as that is the only model with a replaceable battery. (Note the Gen 2 doorbells both have batteries, but they are not user-replaceable).

While I guess this could be a battery issue, there are other possibilities.

This could be an issue with the transformer.  It should be between 8-24 vac and at least 10 VA. So check the specs.  Even if it is within the spec limit, the transformer could be failing (underperforming).

It might even be the chime.  The doorbell will draw more power when it is charging the battery, and that power does go through the chime, since it is on the circuit.

You are still within the warranty period, so you might want to contact Arlo support using the support center of the app.  Phone support is (MO

The doorbell is wired to the chime inside the house but the battery does not stay charged; it loses power and then I have to recharge it.  We do have the doorbell connected correctly. I am not able to get any official support because it is a refurbished doorbell. It sounds like my only option is to buy brand new.

Where did you buy it? If it's from an official distributor (not eBay, etc.) I would hope there's a warranty with it. Check your paperwork to see.

Thanks! My husband can check the transformer. Sounds like I need to replace the doorbell. I bought it refurbished without realizing.

Then likely either the refurbished doorbell is defective, or the transformer is not delivering enough power to charge it.

So I still suggest looking at the transformer first.  If you have a voltmeter, it'd be useful to measure both the voltage and the current at the doorbell.

Thank you. We do have the meter.
