Is there a way I can record my Essential Wired Video Doorbell to my VMB4000 base station so I don’t have to subscribe to the secure subscription service? Thanks in advance.

You can connect the AVD1001 to your VMB4000 base.
Keep in mind that while your base supports local recording, it does NOT support playback. To see the recordings you need to eject the storage from the base and connect it to a PC.
Any recordings you see in the app (or my.arlo.com) now are stored in the Arlo cloud. Note that the pro and pro 2 cameras were sold with 7-day free cloud recording. The AVD1001 does not have that.
