Events are no longer being categorized by type (animal, person, vehicle, etc.) and are all showing up as "motion." I have the Basic Unlimited plan. How can I get the categorization back?

that sounds like your subscription has expired and you are back to the "normal" with non-subscription. How long have you been using the ARLO system?

I'm trying to figure this all out after my aunts three Arlo Camera Essential 2nd gen - 30 day trial period ended, and now is left with 3 paperweights...pretty much useless without a darn plan now. Also seems her much older 2011 Arlo/Netgear cameras are useless also in the new updated app.
The Basic, the cheapest plan just records everything, it doesn't categorize what is being recorded. You have 30 day access to the videos and can create "Zones" on the camera.
Next tier is Plus plan. This has the custom detections - Person, Vehicle, Package, etc. NOT ALL the features from the Arlo trial...but personally I think its enough. (thats just me)
Next up is Premium, this has everything from the 30 day trial.
Price is of course different for these plans.

They can't be from 2011 - the first Arlo camera (VMC3030) was launched in 2014.
The free 7-day cloud storage has always been limited to 5 unsubscribed cameras per account. When the trial ended on the three Essentials, she ended up with 6 unsubscribed cameras - one over the limit.

Apparently we can't fool our expert @StephenB 🤣

Thanks all. It appears this is due to my trial expiring and switching to Basic Unlimited, which does not detect objects. While I do like the filtered object detection, I don't think it's worth the extra ~$5/month for Plus, so I'm sticking with Basic Unlimited with generic motion alerts for now.
