I try to connect the doorbell with my basestation but it says the doorbell is not compatible with my basestation.

after researching it turns out the firmware of my basestation is still on 1.24…. It should be at least on 1.25…. Even 1.26 is already out!

when I click on firmware at my basestation it says: no new firmware available.

restarted the basestation several times, also powered it down for 10 minutes and repowered it, but without success.

what can I do to update my firmware?

You can try removing your base from your account and claim it back again but be aware that many folks have done this only to find they can't claim it again.  Do so at your own risk.

Hmmm... Maybe just return my brand new doorbell and buy another model that works with old firmware?

If you can find a 1st gen doorbell, that may (or may not) work. That would depend on the firmware in the base as well as the doorbell. You may want to consider purchasing a VMB4540 to replace the problematic 4000 which would be a long-term fix.
