LAN access to cameras, not via cloud

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to stream a camera feed directly over the network to a PC/Mac, not using this cloud interface. I have limited upload bandwidth, so want to be able to view my front of house camera while in my office without hammering my internet connection. I can't understand how this is possible via the app on my iPhone but not accessible from a normal browser?
