For many reasons I prefer the cameras not announcing their presence to the world when recording, so I am hoping that the arlo ultra has a similar night mode to pro 2 using IR light and isn't dependent on a spotlight. Anyone know if it only works with the visible spotlight? And how many cameras can the new smart hub handle?

The camera has both a spotlight as well as IR illuminators. You can turn each on or off as you need.
I don't know about the max number of cameras per Ultra base. It would potentially depend on the mix of Ultra cameras as well as the older cameras paired on the base since there's a difference in bandwidth (which may not be the primary limitation). In the past, a base could support 15 cameras.
@JamesC, any insight on this?

Yes, but now a Pro/Pro2 base ( unsure of original ) can support 20 cameras max

I think that's the Elite plan, not the base.
