Hello Community -

At my wits end. The smart hub is not being discovered. MY router has only one ethernet port, so i bought a netgear ethernet hub, my google nest works through the netgear hub, but if my smart Hub is connected to the entgear hub is keeps on blinking red/amber. when i connect the Arlo smart hub directly to the router or to the ethernet port of my goodle nest, the LED light is blue.

But in both the afore mentioned cases, it does not  get discovered in the app. even when the light is blue. i chatted with Arlo support for hours and thy said, port 80 and 443 are not open. i then search through my router config and cant even see these ports. also google search across the community says ports is not the issue.

what should i do? i am thinking of returning the cameras...why is it so hard. please help.

amit_kesri,

Try factory resetting the SmartHub: https://kb.arlo.com/1057976/How-can-I-reset-my-Arlo-SmartHub-or-base-station-to-the-default-values

If it's getting an internet connection when not being connected through the ethernet hub (assuming you're referring to a switch), then the switch is causing an issue.

so even if the blue light is there, the hub is not recognized by the app. Arlo support ( only thru chat on the app, which is exhausting!) says port 80 and 443 are not open. so i called Xfinity ( my internet provider) - they said, we cant help u as u dont use our router, talk to ur router people. now i have a surfboard from ARRIS, when i logged in , there is aboslutely nothing there abt port forwarding/ports open /ports close etc.

so i am stuck and frustrated and exhausted! PLEASE HELP

If you're the owner of the router, it's unlikely that the ports are closed but it's possible. You could reset the router and set it up again to ensure this to be true but I doubt it would make a difference. Since you're here, you already using ports 80 and 443 so that implies all is good.

Have you tried plugging the hub directly into the router to see if that makes a difference?

What is the path here?  Arris -> ethernet "hub" -> google nest?  Or something different?

Also, what is the model of the ethernet "hub"?  Normally you'd get a gigabit ethernet switch.  There used to be ethernet hubs that worked differently, but those are very obsolete tech.

If the google nest if your router, then you'd need to connect the switch to a LAN port of the google nest.  It sounds like you are trying to put it in between the modem and the router, which is not the right place.

FWIW, this isn't about ports 80 and 443.  Those ports are also used for web browsing, so if you can post here then the ports are fine.
