I bought the Arlo Ultra 2 system with 2 cameras because it looked good and someone in my building is breaking in and doing terribly mean things to me and damaging my belongings. I started with a fancy door lock from Abloy and when that didn't work, got the Ultra 2. Then the SimpliSafe system (with another camera). Then an exterior padlock form BiLock. A ring doorbell was next. The break ins continued somehow, and the LTE alarm was triggered a few times so I got an Arlo Go with Verizon. It sounds totally weird, but it is what it is. Who knows, right?
Ultra 2:
I was having a problem with the base station suddenly flashing an amber light and showing offline status with no reason. Sometimes I would get home and find my cameras had been disarmed somehow. Sometimes the lights on the cameras will blink at me by themselves (we've all read those horror stories) I thought, ok- I live in an area of Portland, OR with a bunch of savvy millennial techies. I got a password manager service as well as an external firewall from Bitdefender with layers of AI encryption that transmits a wifi signal in place of the router. So: router > firewall > network switch > Arlo Ultra 2.
I also have a network monitor called a Fingbox that alerts me if anything goes offline, and has the ability to block devices trying to connect to the network. The problem seems to be that the Ultra 2 cameras go offline when the internet is testing anywhere from 170-1000 mbps.
I called Arlo and reset and rebooted everything a million times. Then I was sent a replacement base station. It didn't actually connect at all, so then Arlo sent another base station VMB5000 that I just plugged in. Guess what- same problem. Intermittent signal. Online steady for a while and then offline for a minute or two. What the heck?
I'm not sure what to do at this point. Arlo already replaced the base station, and I'm having the same connectivity issue. I really really really wish there was an uneditable timeline of logins and activity record on the app. Or a way to log out of all devices. I get notifications if the cameras go offline through the Fingbox, so that might help out someone on these forums idk.
What's next? What the heck. I'll say this about my peculiar situation: The Alarm co. I use (SimpliSafe) has a camera with motion detection and it records anytime I arm/disarm, motion detection or entry sensors trigger movement. On the first alarm event (at 12:33am) the video was absent at first. Days later, an obviously edited video was uploaded showing the clock on the wall jump around. I'm shown walking around and disappearing into thin air at one point. I called the company and never heard back. Then the timeline of events was erased. Still have the video and called back. I think it might be particularly odd case of who is messing with me.
As to the Arlo Ultra 2 system: I think its probably a good tool to catch thieves trying to take your lawnmower or something like that, but not to catch anyone that knows how to use technology. I bought the Ultra 2 at $499 and the Arlo Go at $399 plus activation and monthly fees. Useless with a RF scrambler though. What a pity to be an exceptional case, right?
