Waiting for my Ultra 2 3 cam kit that includes the VMB5000.  I have researched a bunch but not sure I have clarity of current function.

Assuming an environment event like hurricane, flood, earthquake ....OR.... thieves/vandals,  it is easy to imagine how you would lose power and/or lose internet (thieves manually disconnecting).

I plan to have the cloud subscription and local storage.  I plan to have battery backup for the base station and charger.

Why cant Arlo detect via API healthcheck that the cloud is not reachable and if their is local storage switchover to recording there instead of sending up to cloud storage ?

How is a customer suppose to manage a situation like this ?  What if its not my primary location but a secondary site that I am not physically at (beach, mountain, rental, etc) ?

Even if I setup a VPN that I could access from my mobile over the air (vz, t-mo, att) ....would I still have to manually switch local recording on, then later switch it back to cloud.    What a PITA to have to do that in the middle of a crisis situation. 😕

When cameras are connected to a smarthub, all recordings are saved on the hub.  This happens whether the cloud is reachable or not.

So there is no need to manually switch on local storage.

I'd suggest using a UPS for not only your hub but your modem and router, also, so your internet connection remains up as much as possible.
