Positioned my cameras outside, one 18 mtrs the other 14 mtrs nice clarity but could not see features, car plates, faces very blurry. Spoke to online help was advised after i asked what the best distance was and was told 8-9 mtrs. Re-positioned my cameras to 2-3 mtrs well you know where this is going. No good, pixelated. Arlo's promo videos show 4 k auto tracking superb good security, in reality rubbish.

I have another system 4 cameras and dvr cabled. Cheap overseas brand online $160.00 Australian dollars Has worked great 2 years 1080p clarity very good. Now Arlo nearly 900.00 really.........

Arlo accessories cheaply made. Purchased 2 Camera Ultra 2 and Base $900.00 Australian dollars. Magnet stand tiny rectangle bit connection poorly made nearly dropped the heavy camera. Combo came with one magnet stand and one gyro stand. So subsequently had to purchase another fixing to match. Arlo had major issues a while ago drop outs poor resolution and so on. These were pulled off the shelf and software repaired, umm maybe i got the previous model here in Australia.

Wire free cameras can never be compatible to hardwire systems as you have pointed out. Saving the recordings locally would help but are still not as good as hardwire recordings.
The purpose of using the wire free cameras for me is to alert me of activity and provide the opportunity to determine the required follow up actions.
You would likely not be able to submit the recordings to identify the criminals in a court except that the act was committed by someone.
Regards the question of arlo responding, this is simple,..

Yes Dannybear, moral of the story, get my money back and buy cheap wired one again from China. Probably get 3 sets of 4 cameras dvr wired for the same money.
