Both the SmartHub and the Arlo Ultra 2 cameras need remote maintenance features.  The Cameras are not readily accessible for maintenance as they are 20 feet in the air.  When we are not at the location the SmartHub needs to be remotely maintained or this system is not useful for our use as we go away for months on end and need a reliable system watching our farm.

Arlo needs to work on a method of syncing the Arlo camera with the base station using remote syncing control.  Remote sync on the cameras is essential.  Remote sync on the base station would make the system more versatile.  If a security camera is installed on the side of a building, it cannot be readily removed from the case to press the sync button on the camera.  There has to be a remote method of doing this or the camera is not suitable for security use in some places.

On our farm the cameras are installed on the end of two buildings high enough up to shelter the cameras under the peak of the roof.  They are installed close to the roof, so that the weather will not normally bother them.  Special lift machines need to be used to install the cameras and to reach the camera at any other time.  Because of this, once installed, the camera will not be removed.  Bringing in special equipment to remove the camera when the only purpose is to press the sync button makes this camera a non starter.  If the camera needs to be removed from building, it will be installed in the box it came in, and returned to the supplier.

In our case we leave the farm for months on end.  If it is impossible to sync the camera and base station from remote, the cameras will not work until we are able to return to the farm.  In the mean time we have no security cameras at the farm.

Arlo also needs to work on the information supplied to sync an Ultra 2 camera.  The first step, left out of the on screen write up, is to remove the hub and the cameras from the on line system, so they can be reinstalled.  It is impossible to re-sink the base station or a camera until it is removed from the system.   Please see that the write up is corrected to reflect this face so that it will work with the Ultra 2 system.

Consider a UPS for your modem, router and hub so power outages aren't an issue. A WiFi switch such as a Wemo can also be useful for remote rebooting of the hub.

It might be helpful to hear more details on what specific features you want.

FWIW, if the camera loses its connection to the base, there isn't anything you can do remotely other than restart the base and hope.  By definition you can't tell the camera to do anything if you can't connect to it.

There are some times when restarting the base is needed to restore operation.  It would be good if there were a keep-alive timer of some sort in the base, that would automaticly reboot it if the base was hung, or if it sees an extended internet outage.  It would also be good if the system could send you notifications when it detected a problem with the base or a camera.

These certainly will help (though not with camera issues).
