Why do I need a plan for Ultra Camera System to save videos to the library?

I purchased the Ultra cameras at costco and my free trial of Arlo smart had expired. Why do I need to pay for a plan when I don’t need the special detection, 4K etc? I am ok with 2K and 7 day recording library. My old Arlo cameras record in 1080P and stores for 7 days and that’s completely fine. Why can’t the new ones do the same?

The 7 day free plan ended with the pro2 cams.  The Ultras and others are either a cloud plan or local storage
