It appears to me that an enhancement was made, but doesn't address the stated limitation. Each Routine Mode (scroll to the bottom of any) have selectors for Automation enablement/disablement. When entering a Mode, you may select which Routine Automations are disabled. At least, I don't recall these selectors when I looked end of last year.
For my desired programming, I want Standby to be used when I'm home during daytime and Arm Home for when I'm home at night. Arm Away is used only when I'm away. The issue before was preventing a Scheduled Automation from overriding the Arm Away mode whilst not at home.
I have two Schedule Automations: Day at Home and Night at Home. They begin at appropriate times according to their names. I have three Arrive/Leave Automations: Leave (specific phones must leave), I Arrive, and Wife Arrive. We both must leave to trigger the Arm Away. Either one of us arriving triggers Standby Mode, which is the issue. I want it to trigger the Schedule Automations so that if either arrive at night it goes to Arm Home Mode and Standby Mode only upon arrival during the day.
I do have Standby Mode enable Night at Home and Leave Automations; Arm Home enables Day at Home and Leave Automations; and, Arm Away enables I Arrive and Wife Arrive Automations (those not enabled are disabled). This prevents the Day/Night Automations from running whilst away. There is and was a way to enable/disable Automations in both the Schedule and Arrive/Leave rules, but the switches in the Modes is more convenient and easier to read/understand.
I still see no way to run the Schedule Automations upon either of us arriving home so that the Mode is determined by schedule. The enhancement would require a new Action selection (e.g., Schedule) and logic to examine the Schedule rules for times of day when they get triggered, determine current time of day upon the Arrive rule triggering compared to the Schedule rule times, and trigger the Schedule rule that is before and not after the current time. This needs to account for day of the week since Schedule rules may be specific to days.
If anyone has a different suggestion on how to accomplish my goal, I'm still listening...

They were there. They just provide an alternative way to modify the enable list - probably a way that is more intuitive for most users (as I think you point out in your comments).

Correct. They have not addressed that. A big miss, since it is an obvious use case.
I suspect that will change when they add back custom modes (hopefully soon).
