Do I need to connect the router that came with the camera if I already have a router?

Some people call the base station a router (it technically is but we use a different name to prevent confusion). Are you talking about base stations or routers? You must use a base to be able to use the cameras - they connect only to a base.

Assumption: you do not already have an Arlo system before you bought the one you are describing. For that situation you absolutely need to connect the Arlo base to your wifi router by means of the ethernet cable supplied. The cameras do not connect directly to your wifi router, only to the Arlo base

(If you already had an Arlo base, then you probably now have one too many base stations. you add the camera to the existing Arlo base).

If there is any confusion here, refer to the Arlo "router" that came with the system as base, and the wifi router as just that.
