Hey

My mother in law uses a VMB3000 with 2 Arlo Pro cameras to watch her cat and hedgehogs at night. The camera nearer the hub is totally fine. The camera at the other side of the house keeps dropping off the even though the Wi-Fi is really strong (mesh throughout the home) is the connection between the camera and arlo hub direct? I assumed the Wi-Fi would take over so the distance between camera and hub wouldn’t be an issue?

Would a new arlo system fix this?

Thanks

No.  The base creates its own closed wifi network, and camera connects to that.  The Pro 2 never connects to your mesh wifi.

Some newer cameras can connect to your home wifi (Pro 4 and Arlo Essential models).  When in that mode, they never connect to a base.  One disadvantage of getting these cameras is that they don't have the 7-day free cloud storage that you have with the Pro 2, so she would need a paid subscription for the newer cameras.

Other options are to

  • try relocating the base so both cameras are within range
  • get a second base, and place it closer to the second camera (moving the camera to that base)

If the mesh elements have ethernet connections, then you should be able to connect a base to any of them.
