How do videos get stored on a hard drive?

How do these videos get stored on hard drive. What is directories structure. Is each file named by the date?

It's not done in a human-logical manner. I don't recall how many videos per directory but the directries are simply numbered, not by date or anything else. The videos, IIRC, have identification and time embedded but it may well be easier to just use the file timestamp to try to nail down what to view.
