My newly installed Arlo Pro has a constant message that 'both base station and camera firmware need to be updated', then 'let's start with base station'.  it appears to be updating, but nothing happens.   It's a constant message that i cannot get rid of.   Prevents from seeing 'live' action

This has been a fairly common issue recently and seems to stem from people having too slow an internet connection. What up and down speeds are you getting. Up speeds seem to be the biggest problem

There were apparently some server issues yesterday, too.  After running overnight, did the updates occur automatically?  If not, can you do a manual update?  If that fails, try a reset holding the reset button until the LEDs flash amber.  Add the base back into your account and check for updates.

I appear to be having the same issue as many others, with the base station requiring a firmware update but being unable to either manually update or have it automatically update overnight. I have DSL internet which is not the fastest. Is there any way I can download the firmware to my computer and update the base station via the usb or ethernet ports?

Mine cleared late last night. No more message now

Michaelk75,

There is no way to download the firmware update to your computer and update manually.

The DSL connection could be the cause of the issue, some users have had trouble download the firmware update using slower internet connections. What are your download/upload speeds?

James, my DSL speed is poor. Download is 1.5mb and upload 500kb on a good day. I did finally get the firmware updated by connecting directly to the DSL modem and bypassing my LAN. That did the job. But I have been having problems keeping one of the 4 Arlo pro cams online. I have been testing the system before I deploy them, so they are all the same distance from the base. But the same cam keeps dropping offline. Any ideas? Do I have one bad cam?

Michaelk75,

How far from the base station is the affected camera? It could be an issue related to it's location, consider swapping it with a camera that is behaving correctly and see if the problem follows the camera.

Do the updates download automatically? I just connected my new system yesterday and I'm still in the learning curve. Trying to read thru all the messages and info on the Arlo Pro.  Very Nice system but still learning.

Chuck159,

First, the new firmware does not download automatically. You will get a notification when on the "devices" page of the app, that overlays and darkens the video screen from your cams. It will not allow you to use the video until you update the firmware. I agree with another user that, while I understand that they want you to update to the latest firmware, but this is a really crappy way to do it. Especially if this is a critical moment, when you need to see the video, and all you get is an unuseable and darkened video screen with a message to update your firmware. Not cool! The other issue that I had, is that you need to have a decent speed of broadband to download the update to install. Otherwise it fails to install, probably because it times out. I have horrible DSL speed of less than 1MB/sec and I couldn't update my firmware. They also apparently don't have a way to download the updated firmware as a file on your computer and then install the firmware separately. Another not so great deficiency. I had to take the base unit to another location with faster broadband to be able to update the firmware. This was a pain that I hadn't planned on. Now, after all that initial problems, I also had one cam that would not stay online, no matter how close it was to the base unit. I would reset it and a few minutes to a few hours later when I rechecked the video, the one cam would be again offline. I finally returned the system to BestBuy and exchanged the system for another, and have had no problems since then, other than having to re-download the firmware again from a different location than home!!! This has not been a very easy or streamlined installation and if I wasn't so persistent, I would have just returned the system and said keep it. That said, now that I have ironed out the various issues with this system, it is working properly and I am happy with the results. Now I am waiting to see how long the batteries last before I need to recharge them. I have two inside and two outside in the cold. I am assuming the two outside will run down first. Sorry for this long post, but it has been a long journey to get where I wanted to be. Keep the faith.

Chuck159,

I do have to make a correction. Apparently the firmware is supposed to update automatically. I have a feeling that mine did not update automatically because of my poor internet speed. I will have to wait and see what happens when the next firmware update gets pushed out.

Call Verizon they may be able to speed up your DSL. I was running 1.5 and they could boost me up to almost 6mps. made a big difference give them a call.
