Camera works but doesn't see motion

Over several months I've frequently noticed that cameras aren't sensing/recording motion. I only realize it is a problem when I or someone else walks a path that should record motion.

 

When I see this happening, I try using the "live" feature and that functions - the camera is working. There is nothing obstructing the camera's sensor. 

 

I try resyncing the cameras individually, I try rebooting the base station, etc. but the problem inevitably returns, sporadically. Some days it will sense and record motion, some days it doesn't. All the software is up to date.

 

It is pretty frustrating because I can go some length of time before realizing that the cameras aren't working properly.

 

Any ideas? (Please don't suggest resyncing and/or rebooting - see above.)
