If a friend is added to the device can they get an audible alarm on their smartphone ?

If you mean adding them via Grant Access, yes. Anyone with permissions to see the cameras will get push notifications as defined in your rules. If you want them to have email notifications, you need to add their email address to the rule on a camera by camera basis.
