I am trying to find out how to extend the range of the cameras. I have a large outdoor area that I would like to have cameras in. I have the pro base unit. So my questions is, do I need to add a base unit to extend the camera range? If so, can that base station use wi-fi for internet? Or does it have to be hard wired to internet? Also, what kind of range extention will an additional Pro base unit give you? Will all the cameras go under one plan with multiple base units? I am using base station VMB400-100NAS & Pro Cameras VMS4030.

Use of a second base is the likely solution. The base must use Ethernet to connect but that cable could be plugged into a WiFi extender.

The number of bases doesn't matter for whatever plan you have, only the total number of cameras.

What range does each base unit have?

In real life, maybe 100 to 150 feet, depending what is in the way of the WiFi signal to the cameras.
