The Pro 6 camera provides 2 options to select for recording time. 1 is a fixed time of up to 2 minutes and this one works. However the 2nd option is for continuous recording up to 5 minutes or until the motion stops. When the longer option is selected I end up with 5 or 6 snippets of video varying in length from 12 seconds to 58 seconds. I do not want to have to view 5 recordings for a single event. I spent over an hour online with support testing different settings and they ended up sending me a replacement. I installed and tested the replacement with the same result.

Very Disappointed with arlo!!

You could try increasing the cameras sensitivity. If the motion stops being detected at any point, it will end the recording. It seems like even though motion is continuing in the cameras field of view, the camera sensitivity may not be high enough to continue detecting it.

Take a look here: https://kb.arlo.com/000062895/How-do-I-change-the-motion-sensitivity-on-my-Arlo-camera-Arlo-Secure-4...

It makes no difference @JamesC what the setting is. The fact is that I too end up with several recordings - with the sensitivity set at 100 - regardless of how far the recorded entity is. This has been reported by me before and others, on here and elsewhere. I'm sorry to say this but Arlo products are not working as they're supposed to. Additionally, your cameras miss events. I have lots of recordings to show you of both issues, by the way. From two different cameras in two different locations (Pro 2 and Ultra).

Just to clarify how this works:  The motion detection is done using a passive infrared (PIR) sensor on the camera, and does not involve the imager at all.  "when motion stops" means that the PIR sensor is no longer detecting motion.

Increasing the motion sensitvity should help, but might result in more unwanted notifications.  I don't think it will completely fix the problem - particularly if the motion is at the edge of the sensor range, and/or if the moving object  stops moving (or moves less) for a second or so.

Personally, I'd like Arlo to add a setting that would continue the recording for X seconds after motion stops.

A little bit of testing always helps. It's easy enough to move side to side at different distances to see how this works (I know, I've done it). As @StephenB states, it's the camera that detects motion, not anything else.

Don't give Arlo ideas, @StephenB , because we'll have another 6 - 9 months of 'implementing' (= misery) the feature and it's guaranteed, they'll break something else in the meanwhile. Best leave it untouched.

Two things for sure: motion detection isn't working as well as it used to, and I'm not putting up a sign 'Please walk side to side only for a better chance to be recorded - Arlo cameras in operation.'

To be clear, "side to side" is how ANY device that uses PIR sensors operates.

Fine. But clearly some better than others.

Pro6 Camera - Duration Fails Will record on 12 seconds, When on Live feed, will no record, Pixelated so badly can get a clear recording, Camera mis-identifying animals when it is motion,  Purchased extender, new base station and still pixelates so much can not get a full two minute recording without entire screen blurred with pixelation.  What am I paying for?  I have spent countless hours with arlo helpdesk to no avail.  Very frustrated and disappointed!  I need the camera to work as I need proof of my neighbor doing inappropriate things to protect myself.  I have 3 Essential cameras and they pixelate as well.  What am I paying for?

Generally this caused is network loss.

Try measuring your wifi upload speed and packet loss at the camera locations with your phone.  The free Ookla speedtest app will do that.  Turn off mobile data, so you are certain you are testing the wifi speed.  You need a stable 2 mbps upload speed for Arlo 2K cameras. (1 mpbs per second for 1080p cameras).

I have 1G Internet.  I used the speed check for Ookla 242.03 Upload speed and mobile data turned off.  With Spectrum upload 47. Xfinity 30.7 upload speed.

Any other suggestions?

You checked this at the camera locations?
