I have several pro 5 cameras that works well at night and record in color.

One of my pro 5 cameras is in black and white in live view.  I turned off night vision and did a live view and it shows in color with a yellow tint. This a new camera has been in use for 2 months (since the beginning of June). It is charged to 98%.  The spotlight toggle is on. The color night vision was working after this camera was set up.

Anyone else had this issue?  How did you resolve it?

Seems likely that the ambient lighting is low. Swap cameras around to see if it's the camera or location.

The area is over the driveway where the camera is located is very well lite.  Three lights over the garage doors and at street light at the end of the driveway at the street. I checked another camera that doesn’t have any ambient light at night and it was also B&W on the manual view.  (When motion occurs it records in color). So not sure what is going on…..may be something with the last firmware update affecting some cameras.  Seems to be affecting only manual live view and not the recording when motion sets off the camera those are in color

Can you confirm that the spotlight is coming on when you livestream?

It doesn’t come on during the daylight when I live stream but will check after dark to see if it come on when I live stream.

Ok so the spotlight does NOT come on on any of my pro 5 cameras or the essential camera when I do a live stream and it show and records in black and white.  I have night vision toggled on and color on and the spot light is toggled on on all of the cameras.  If motion is detected on any of these cameras then the spotlight DOES come on and it shows and records in color.

This doesnt seem right that it shows and records in black and white when you do a live view…..why isn’t it in color?  When I started this post I thought it was only one of my pro 5 cameras but it is all of them doing this behavior.

So I tried to live view and then manually clicking on the spot light while live viewing and then it shows and records in color.  So the spot light doesn’t automatically come on when you live-stream you have to manually turn the spot light on to get the camera to record in color……is this the way it normally should work?  I would like the spotlight to automatically come on when I do a live view but I guess I’ve figured out how to accomplish what I want which is a color video

Make sure the spotlight is enabled in both the camera settings as well as your modes and rules (or in Default Mode Settings).

The spotlight is enable (toggled on) on all devices in settings and under all routines for the default settings for each camera.  Nothing has changed in the settings but it appears that the spotlight won’t come on when you do a live view unless you manually turn it on during the live view.  No issue with the spotlight coming on and recording in color if motion triggers the camera…..

I'm thinking a firmware update may have changed the behavior of the camera

I have to manually turn on the light when livestreaming - not sure if that is a recent behavior change, or if it's always been that way.

It changed at some point.  I looked back on my feed and see a manual snapshot on June 8th that is in color and I didn’t turn on the spotlight.  This was soon after the camera was installed so that is how I thought it worked.  When you did a live view and did a snapshot you saw it in color.  That is why I was so surprised when it was in black and white a few days ago when I did a live view.

Maybe JamesC could answer when and why it changed and if there is a way to live view in color without having to manually turn on the spotlight…

When live streaming the camera, the spotlight will not turn on automatically. If you wish to enable the spotlight within a live stream, you must tap the spotlight icon.

The black and white night vision filter will enable when there is not enough ambient light in the image for a color image to be displayed (without the spotlight enabled). In your June 8th example, was there another source of light nearby that allowed the camera to stream without the back/white night vision filter?

If the spotlight and color night vision are enabled in the camera settings you should see the spotlight engage on motion triggered events and the image will be in color (the spotlight will not engage if there is sufficient ambient lighting in the cameras environment).

The June 8th and Aug 2nd live stream shot were taken from the same camera with the same ambient lighting around.  (There are Three lights over driveway and one street light at the sidewalk)   Both live views were taken at night.  The one on June 8th was in color and the one on Aug 2nd was black and white.  So that is what started my question and wondering what had changed.  In the past I have not had to manually turned on the spot light during the  live view to get it in color.  I figured out last night if I turned on the spotlight while doing a live view then the video and snap shot was in color.
After I installed these Pro 5 cameras in early June I checked them at night and thought it was great they live viewed in color.  So it seems to me that something changed…..

They definitely record in color when the motion is detected and a video is recorded….
