starting subscription prior to free trial ending

If I add a subscription prior to my free trial period.  Will it start when the trial ends, or will it start immediately

I recall reading that it starts immediately and the trial is discontinued.

The paid subscription definitely starts immediately.  But the trial also continues, until it expires or you cancel.
