I'm considering getting this camera for a relative who lives in northern Minnesota. The specified operating temperature range is down to -4F. In the winter Minnesota nights regularly get to -20F, and sometimes to -40. While I don't necessarily expect it to function well on such cold nights, I would like to know whether or not that will permanently damage the camera during the repeated cold/"warm" cycling. I do expect to have this on exterior power, not just relying on batteries, if that makes any difference.

No one has reported damage due to extreme cold temps to my knowledge. The automatic shutdown of the camera at -4F should be all that's required to protect the cameras.

FWIW, if you can power the cameras with the outdoor charger, then you can run them w/o batteries in the winter. That eliminates any chance of the battery doing damage to the camera in extreme cold.
