Hi,

I own two Arlo Pro 4 cameras and am facing the same problem with both: they do not record more than 20-40 seconds, despite continuous motion in the activity zones for several minutes. This results in a series of prematurely cut-off videos.

Interestingly, the motion indicator in the app (shown in yellow) remains active during the entire duration of movement, yet the cameras only capture the initial few seconds.

I’ve followed all recommended support steps: Logging out of and back into the app, Resetting the cameras, Standing under the activity zones for extended periods, Reconfiguring the default recording mode, etc, etc.
None of these steps have resolved the issue.

As I’m experiencing this issue with both of my cameras, I’m trying to determine if this is a common defect or if Arlo is perhaps pushing users towards their continuous recording subscription plan.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from other users about their experiences. Are you facing similar issues? Do you believe this is a deliberate limitation by Arlo, or could it be a technical defect?

Thanks!

It sounds like you're using "record while motion continues" (or similar). Remember that the camera has to detect the motion, not your eyes.  Detection is out to maybe 25 feet for people but that depends on the sensitivity setting, distance to the subject, direction of movement (across the FOV is needed for best detection), etc. Testing by moving across the FOV at various distances would be helpful to understand where the limits are in your situation. Since this is a relatively frequent issue when using this recording setting, a timed recording is generally a better choice. Even if it times out, a new recording, if motion is detectable, will start a few seconds later.
