I had the Arlo Essential XL and I was able to view videos on my computer browser. Nothing has changed about my computer, but I switched to Arlo Pro 4's, and now when I click to play it says "This video is not able to play in your browser. Please download to view." So videos can only be viewed after they are downloaded.
I attempted to reduce the resolution by switching power management to "Best Battery Life, May reduce video quality" but they are still 2K videos. Also restarted the cameras, still 2K, so I'm not sure if that's the issue.

Turn on "Auto Zoom and Track" - that will reduce the video to 1080p.
2K and 4K will work in Edge on newer PCs (gen 6 CPUs or later). Though you might also need to purchase the Microsoft HEVC windows extension from the Microsoft App Store (cost is $.99 USD). They will also work with Safari.
They will not play natively in Chrome, FireFox, or other browsers.
