I just bought an Arlo Pro 4 camera, set it up and subscribed to the Arlo Secure plan. I am trying to set up Smart Notifications. On the web, I go to Settings > Notifications but there is no option for Smart. The only thing visible on the screen is an option to Mute notifications.
On my phone in App notifications, there is also no item or sub-item to set up Smart.
How is Smart accessed?

Ok. So you have the new "Feed" experience. (Arlo is gradually rolling this out, I think most people still have Library).
Using the app, press the person icon at the top left of the screen. Then select the location (likely home). You'll see Smart Notifications in there.

Arlo is transitioning to a new UI, so we first need to sort out whether you have the new one or the old one.
Are you seeing "Feed" or "Library" on the main app screen?

Thanks, I found it in the menu but it looks like I can only turn each item (people, vehicles, etc) on or off. I thought the software provided a way to customize each category for sensitivity?

No, there is no way to set sensitivity be category (either with the traditional "Library" UI experience, or the new "Feed" experience).
The camera has a threshold for motion detection (and audio detection). Whenever those thresholds are triggered, the camera streams video to the Arlo Cloud. That does the classification.
