Motion detection stopped working

I've got an Arlo Pro 4 connected to a VMB5000. There's an SD card in the hub and the Pro 4 is recording to it. We've noticed a few times that the camera stops recording and seems not to trigger on motion, but a few "remove, reset, sync" cycles normally fixes it.

Now, however, it's just absolutely refusing to do motion detection, even in the test mode. There's no orange light and no recording.

I've tried:

I'm not using activity zones. I'm not using automation. The camera and the hub are on the latest firmware. The camera has decent signal and is within ten feet of the hub through thin, modern-build house walls. All of this worked before, I'm just trying to get a motion detecting camera to detect motion again!

(I've enabled "Audio detection" and that seems to be working... but not motion detection)

My older camera still works fine. But it worries me that some of these "why has my camera stopped doing motion detection" threads go all the way back to 2022 😐

to pre-empty @StephenB  - yes, I've tried that, which is why the first five bullets in my "list of things I tried" are different variants of "remove it, reset with a long-press of the sync button and re-add to the account")

Well, you mentioned a hardware reset of the smarthub explicitly in that list, but not the camera.  So I wanted to confirm that you'd done that.

If motion detection isn't working, but audio detection is, then this could be a camera hardware failure.

I guess you could try moving the camera into the same room as the smarthub (6-10 feet away), and see if the motion detection test works consistently there.
