I have an existing Pro 4 system with 3 cameras and no hub. Just purchased a 3 camera Pro 4 xl system with a hub. I was unable to add the 3 new cameras without going through the hub. Is the hub required? I really wanted to add the new cameras only through my wifi system without needing to link through the hub/base. Can someone advise me?

It is not - you should be able to onboard the cameras to your home wifi.
If that isn't working with the app, then perhaps try using a PC (my.arlo.com). That often works then the app fails.
If your router lets you disable 5 ghz wifi, then doing that during onboarding can also help.
