I read the following here - https://kb.arlo.com/1001908/What-are-activity-zones-and-how-do-I-create-them
If you’re not subscribed to Arlo Smart, you can connect the following cameras to continuous AC power to use activity zones:
- Pro 4
- Pro 3 and Pro 3 Floodlight Camera
"If not subscribed."
- Why does that force me into continuous AC power?
- How does that function with Arlo solar panel supplied power? Does it work when there is sun and hence power?

Smart uses server post-processing to figure out zones and what caused the recording. If not subscribed to Smart, AC power is needed so the camera can do the zone determination. A solar panel is just a trickle charger and can't supply enough current, not to mention it doesn't work at night.

Many thanks for your reply.

And it does it in real time at cloud scale all the time for smart subscribers. That would be quite impressive.
