I am trying to format a 1T hard drive to save my recording. I did a factory reset and it did not help. Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

Where are you formatting the drive? In the app? Or on your PC. If you use your PC, you will need to format it as FAT32. That either requires you to use the command line, or to download third party tools.
Note the base only supplies USB 2.0 power (2.5 watts). So if the drive isn't separately powered, make sure it doesn't need more than that.
Generally I recommend using thumb drives in the 128-512 GB range. Even 128 GB stores several months of recordings for me.
