The hard drive initially did not format, however after cycling power to the base station, the formatting works however it says that 931.40 GB used of 931.40 GB were used. when i check the drive on my laptop, there is a single empty file called 00000. Any ideas as to why it thinks this empty drive is full?

Have you tried formatting the drive using a PC, format as FAT32.
