Arlo is a clear bait and switch to get you to buy their cloud service.  The website description is clear that you do not get free cloud storage for more than five cameras but there is literally no information that states you are not able to view or locally record more than five cameras on their website https://www.arlo.com/en-us/products/arlo-pro-2/default.aspx.  The website is quite clear that you can "Local Backup Storage Connect a USB drive to the ARlo Pro 2 base station for optional local backup storage."  There is no restriciton at all stated.  When you try to add the sixth camera it states that "This device is inactive.  A paid Arlo Smart subscription is required to activate the device."  This is a clear legal issue as the product description states nothing of the sort.  Anyone that bought an Arlo Pro 2 camera is limited to this very deceptive information and should directly complain to Arlo.  People should also consider contacting a legal professional.  This should be a clear class action lawsuit.  Arlo Website.jpg

With the older cameras ( arlo, pro,pro2,Q,Baby ), the fee schedule was for the past 3 yrs and still,  free for 7 days up to 5 cameras total....

after that it was a paid subscription.

No subscription. If you have a legacy Arlo camera (Arlo Wire-Free, Pro, Pro 2, Go, Q, Q Plus, or Baby), you will continue to have free 7-day rolling cloud recording on up to five legacy cameras. If you have an Arlo Ultra, Pro 3, or Video Doorbell, you can live stream on an unlimited number of cameras.

If you can live steam in why then why won’t the app let you and why did tech support say you can’t on the app?

They didn't. We need a lot of details to try to help. The free 5 camera, 7 day plan is still in effect - I use it.

Did you even read the first post? The point is Arlo is a dishonest company that puts restrictions on their cameras they don’t tell you about in the product information. That was clearly shown in the first post. This type of behavior is indefensible.
