I have Arlo Pro 2 cameras. I think it's fine during the day, but at night it's not very good, it's hard to see the people and what's going on. do you need a special camera? and which?

Arlo Pro2 cameras do have night vision... but you do have to realize your not going to get much range out of battery powered IR lighting.
The IR illumination does cover about the range of the sensor PIR which is a max of 25ft.
You can
1) get more regular outside lighting
2) get 850nm IR flood lights ( not expensive ) and use those for more coverage
below is a sample of IR from camera with 2 trees aprox 20ft away... light mounted at 6ft high on fence so it is somewhat brighter than a normal camera mounted higher
