Geofencing only works if I open the app

Just bought the Arlo Pro 2 cameras... I love everything about them except the Geofencing feature. It doesn't seem to work unless I keep the app open. I leave for several hours and the system remains disarmed until I open the app. Same when I return home... I must open the app so the system realizes I'm home and disarms. I gather this is not the way it's supposed to work.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8 using the most current firmware. Location setting is on and set to High Accuracy. The Arlo app has Location permissions (and basically every other permission I can possibly give it). Power Saving mode is turned off. 

Any suggestions? Another setting I can check, or something I can try to fix this?

Make sure your not closing out the app, but swiping it to the background

I have the same system and same issue. Samsung S9+. VERY frustrating! No resolution yet? Let's get on it Netgear!

Shouldn't have to just swipe to background. It should work regardless.

Be sure that your phone settings for battery saving isn't turning Arlo off - add it to the exclusions.
