I have a large house with brick and wood walls. My Router and hence my Arlo base is down in the basement. My 2 furthest cameras have very poor signal strength. I understand that the cameras communicate directly with the base so there has to be reasonable proximity between all 4 cameras and the base. The distance I need to cover in the house won’t allow that. Is there a way to piggy back another base into the system so I can cover the area I
need ?

Yes...
The only true way to expand coverage is with multi bases ( no limit on the number of bases on any service level ).
Or you may be able to use a wifi extender on your main floor ( one that has an ethernet port ) and put the base there for better signal to all cameras.
